Building a performance engine will require choosing the right size shell bearings for the crankshaft. The easiest and most accurate way to do this is to use Plastgage. A strip of Plastigage is placed on the bearing, the crankshaft and bearing are then assembled and torqued up, this compresses the Plastigage, By using the gauge that comes with the Plastigage strip you measure the width of compressed Plastigage and calculates the clearance of the bearing between 0.025 and 0.175mm, each pack contains 10 strips.

The leakdown tester is a precision instrument that will provide you with accurate readings to determine cylinder and cylinder head condition. The leakdown tester works by introducing compressed air into the cylinder through the spark-plug hole, then measuring the pwercentage of that air which leaks out. Excessive leakage can cause severe power loss. With air leakage over 10% it is easy to tell where the engine is leaking. If by an intake valve, you will hear air coming out of the carburetor, exhaust valve, out of the pipe etc, Much more accurate than a compression test and easier to diagnose problems than stripping the engine.
